The Karate Kid remake

Has anyone seen this commercial yet? Altros/Altrux brought this to my attention earlier, it's horrible. I think they were taking it too far redoing Speed Racer, Batman, Spiderman, and all of those remakes. I believe it follows the rule of "sequels are never as good as the originals" and it is true. They change the wrong details, and/or too many details. This movie is only a skeleton of the same storyline the old one had.

Oh boy, guys...I can't wait for the Karate Kid II remake, they're going to Germany instead of Japan!  rolleyes

Christian bale is a bad ass batman though. But i see where you are coming from look at all the jason movies that totally sucked, then you have the rob zombie Halloweens which are masterpieces in their own right. I think the big difference in the thought put into the script and story line (Not to mention the director and how he envisions it). You either try to tell the story from an original perspective or you just get a new cast a mediocre script and bust out a bunch of BOMBS. Next thing you know they will come out with "fight club 2"  tongue.

Re: The Karate Kid remake

I was actually hoping they would do that, Fight Club 2, but sequels generally are rather poor. If it could follow the storyline, I would enjoy it. The Aftermath, so to speak. Right now they're playing on racism and ignorance of Asians. Jackie Chan is Chinese, not Japanese. The Karate kid was white, not black. Time will tell.

Re: The Karate Kid remake

Although I know it won't be anything like the original, I'm going to see it. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. I know I will gripe about some things, but I'm just glad to see Jackie Chan in something other than a Spy Kids type movie...

On another note has anyone every seen "Sweep the Leg" by No More Kings. This video is epic. I love it. Make sure you watch the entire video and look at all the cameos.

I've spoken to the lead singer through email before and he seems really cool.

Re: The Karate Kid remake

I don't know about spider man or speed racer but i feel no one has legitimate gripe against the batman remake being different, I mean there are so many batman story lines out there, did you know the original batman had a gun and he used it (against shapeless blobs), the censors took it away saying it was too violent, or that he has died and risen from the grave? I  also though the fist spider man was pretty good.

My only gripe with this movie is it should be called the kung fu kid cause they're obviously in china and he's learning wushu not karate.

Re: The Karate Kid remake

The previews for "Karate Kid" look horrid. Karate Kid (1984) was a classic, when I first heard about a remake, I was hoping for a simple HD-DVD or Blu-Ray quality change. I will still watch it to confirm the current viewpoint I received from the previews. It's just too bad, I liked the old movies better than most of these newer ones, especially since censorship has tightened up. In my opinion all of the Spiderman and X-Men movies were terrible, none of them followed the original comic book script.

The music video, Sweep the Leg, was so awesome...funny as hell too.

Anyone saw the alternate ending of Karate Kid? Johnny Wins!

Re: The Karate Kid remake

I went and saw the remake last night. Personally I loved it. Was it better than the original? No. Was it a great movie? Yeah I would say so. It was neat connecting the new one and old one story wise. It was kind of like a parallel universe in a way. I think too many movie makers miss that fun and innocence movies use to have. They just had the name Karate Kid due to its popularity. It takes place in China and is about Kung Fu. At one point his mom even asks how his "karate" is going and he tells her "It's not karate mom."

Re: The Karate Kid remake

Just like with the Rambo and Rocky movie, hollywood does'nt know how to name movies anymore. You'd think they would just call it 'kung-fu kid' instead, seeing as how it has nothing to do with karate or the Karate Kid series.
Jaden Smith should be in a Boondocks movie instead, since he looks and acts just like Riley.
